Serving the community

Yarm District Lions (RCN 1181191) are ordinary people doing extraordinary things to serve their local community by supporting good causes.

Lions are volunteers who give up their spare time to raise money for charities, community groups, sports clubs and individuals in Yarm and the area, which includes Stockton, Billingham, Thornaby, Ingleby Barwick, Egglescliffe and Eaglescliffe. Last year our members volunteered more than 450 hours of their time.

We raise money by organising the Yarm Fun Run and the Ingleby Barwick Fun Run and we collect funds in local supermarkets and shopping centres for ourselves and for other charities. All the money we raise for charity goes to charity.

70% of the proceeds from our fundraising efforts are donated to local good causes. 20% goes to national good causes and 10% goes to organisations overseas supported by our club and by Lions International. Local charities, community groups, sports clubs and individuals can apply for financial support from us by getting in touch via the Contact Us page.

At Christmas, we distributed food vouchers to local families in need, gave seasonal treats to local food banks and helped six local charities function to a total value of around £6000.

We have fun volunteering at fundraising events, at meetings, and at social events. We hold regular community lunches for Lions, their partners and friends of Lions. Joining us is a great way to meet new people and make friends!

All Lions Clubs are part of Lions International, a unique world-wide organisation which has more than 1.4 million members. You can find out more about Lions International and our club on our About Us page.

We are holding a free MEET THE LIONS event at 8pm on Wednesday 25 March at the Pot and Glass in Egglescliffe, TS16 9DQ. If you would like to find out more about what we do, then please reserve a place via the Contact Us page.

Membership is open to anybody age 18 and over who wants to help others and improve their local community. Members only commit to do what they can.

We meet twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 8pm at the Pot and Glass in Egglescliffe, TS16 9DQ. If you would like to find out more about joining us or volunteering with us, or just attending a meeting, please get in touch via the Contact Us page! We look forward to hearing from you.

Have you some time to spare?

Do you have a few hours to spare to help us raise funds in local supermarkets in March and help marshal runners at the Yarm Fun Run on 31 May? These events help us help local good causes and people in need.  Any help is gratefully received - and hopefully you will enjoy the activity! You can contact us tel. 0800 074 8755, or by using the Contact Us page.
